Who We Are
our story
She 4 Change (SHECU) formerly known as Agaliawamu munnomukabi women is a feminist, youth-led non-profit organization. Founded on the principle of empowerment, SHECU equips vulnerable women, youth, and children with the tools, resources, safe environments, and knowledge they need to break the cycle of poverty and build thriving communities. Through financial inclusion, education, mentorship, and collective action, SHECU strives to transform lives and unlock a brighter future.
Geographic Scope
SHECU currently operates in Kampala’s informal settlements, with active programming in Mutungo, Banda, Mbuya, and Nakawa parishes. As our model matures, we plan to expand into additional slum communities across Uganda facing similar gaps in protection, economic opportunity, and civic voice for women and girls.

Core Values
- Empowerment: We believe in the full potential of every person we work with. We are not here to do things for communities, we are here to stand with them as they build their own power, make their own decisions, and lead their own futures. Empowerment, for us, is about redistribution of
power, not charity. - Collaboration: We actively choose to work in partnership. We believe that the most lasting change happens when communities, civil society, government, and the private sector align around shared goals. We bring our strength to partnerships without needing to dominate them.
- Sustainability: Every program we design, we ask: will this outlast our funding? Will the community own it? We build for long-term resilience in
our communities, in our organization, and in the ecosystems, we work within. - Integrity: We are honest with our communities about what we can and cannot do. We are transparent with funders about our results, including our failures. We keep our promises. Trust is our most important asset, and we protect it deliberately.
- Innovation: The problems our communities face is complex and evolving. We make room for creative, untested approaches. We pilot, we learn, we adapt. We celebrate intelligent failure as a source of knowledge and are not afraid to change course when evidence tells us to.
- Inclusion: We actively refuse to build programs that leave anyone behind. Inclusion is not a checkbox it is a daily discipline. We center the voices of those who are most often excluded: women with disabilities, those in rural areas, those from marginalized communities, and those who have been told their perspectives do not count.
Objectives
- To equip young women and youth in Uganda’s slum communities with livelihood skills, vocational training, and identity-first mentorship that positions them for decent, dignified work not just any employment.
2. To close the information gap that leaves girls and young women in informal settlements vulnerable expanding their access to financial services, SRHR and mental health knowledge, services and rights awareness before and after crisis forces them to seek it.
3. To build girls and young women’s civic voice and agency, mobilizing them as active participants not passive beneficiaries in advancing human rights and accountability within their own communities.
4. To strengthen the resilience of women-led and youth-led households in Uganda’s informal settlements through climate-adaptive livelihoods and environmental skills-building, recognizing that women and youth bear the heaviest burden when climate shocks hit their communities.

Team Leader
Shifrah Nankinga
As a team leader, Shifrah has dedicated the past years to empowering youth, women in marginalised communities.
Her work focuses on financial literacy training, women’s development, and mental health awareness for young people particularly to overcome systemic barriers to education, health, and economic opportunity.
